Sample Multi-Frequency Matrix Match Display Screen

Sample Multi-Frequency Matrix Match Display

The Multi-Frequency Matrix Match display style represents the F3 and F2 components of a production, where the F2 elements determine the horizontal position and F3 the vertical.   Data appears as a series of ellipses, the shape of which reflects the strengths of their F3 and F2 frequencies.  The blue pattern is the model, and the red is the trial.  In this sample (target "sushi"), the higher frequency /s/ appears near the top/middle of the screen, while the lower frequency /sh/ maps to the right side and lower on the screen.  (The trial production was "shooshi".)  As with the Multi-Frequency Temporal Match display, the visual feedback can illustrate and help correct high frequency sound production errors.

Practice modes with this display are single trial Match or live feedback with the Gobble mode, in which the objective is to erase the pattern through several trials.   The contemporaneous nature of the Gobble display lets speakers modify articulator position and get immediate response to changes, helping to develop kinesthetic awareness of sound production.

Samples can be produced from the Matrix Match display itself, or transferred from the Multi-Frequency Temporal Match or Sound Spectrogram.   While there is no scoring in this display, the therapist can manually activate animations to reward good production.  There are options for replaying the productions, saving them, and retrieving previously stored samples.
